Honorable Mayor and Council Members:

All are invited to a celebration marking the historic ties to Menlo Park's long standing sister city, Galway, Ireland. Appropriately, it is scheduled for ST. PATRICK'S DAY, as follows:

DAY: Sunday

DATE: March 17, 2019

TIME: 2:00 PM

PLACE: Public Library, 800 Alma St. (corner of Ravenswood Ave.)

PURPOSE: Dedication of the newly constructed Menlo Gates.

Menlo Park's link to Ireland goes back nearly 150 years when two Irish immigrants traveled to Menlo Park, purchasing a ranch on what is now known as El Camino Real. They named it Menlo Park, as it reminded them of their hometown in Ireland known as Menlough. It is now part of a larger city known as Galway. This was in 1854. Ten years later the railroad came through and named their railroad station, Menlo Park.

The Menlo Park Historical Association along with the generosity of over 50 donors, including the City of Menlo Park, has made this possible, following nearly four years of hard work. Many thanks go to Ernst Meissner, AIA, whose vision and steadfast efforts helped to make this possible. The gates have turned out beautiful, fitting into the area as if they have always been there.
