Please install sidewalks on Sharon Road

Dear City Council,

I want to urge you to please add sidewalks on the portion of Sharon Road
between Alameda and La Entrada Middle School.

I live on the block of Sharon Road just before the school. I cringe every
time I see children riding bikes, walking and scootering to La Entrada –
every school day, and on weekends too, as many (including our kids) play at
the La Entrada playground on weekends.

It is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt or killed on that
segment of road. People also use the street as a cut-through to get to Sand
Hill Road, and the chaos is extreme.

Other schools have sidewalks on the roads leading up to them, for a good
reason: SAFETY.

There is absolutely no reason not to add sidewalks on Sharon Road, and
every reason TO add them.

If you aren’t persuaded to do it for the safety of the dozens of kids (and
adults) who use the road every day, do it to avoid the risk of the City
getting sued, when – heaven forbid – someone gets seriously injured because
there are no sidewalks. Please don’t be swayed by the fact that no
fatalities have happened yet. That is not a valid reason for failing to
make this heavily pedestrian street safer. With the crazy, texting,
distracted drivers we have in our dear city, it would be completely
irresponsible not to add sidewalks on Sharon Road.

Thank you for your leadership on this matter. Lives may depend on it.
