Tenant Relocation Assistance Ordinance

Dear Mayor Mueller and Members of the City Council,

Please reject the Tenant Relocation Assistance Ordinance proposed by the
City’s Housing Commission.

I implore you to consider the severe negative consequences that will result
if this were to pass. I've owned my apartment building at 270 Waverley
Street which has 6 units for 60 years since it was built. I do not use a
management company, and know each and every one of my tenants personally. I
make myself available to them 24 hours a day, and keep rents as low as
possible. As evidence of this, I have had the same tenant in my largest
unit for more than 18 years. Most commonly, my tenants vacate when they
move on to buy a home or change jobs. I would not be able to afford to
maintain the property if the ordinance progresses, and I have no extra
funds with which to legally challenge it. Further, I am also a constituent
as I have lived in a single family Menlo Park residence for 55 years. This
single apartment house with six units is my entire income that supports a
family of five, including one who is handicapped (Down Syndrome) for whom I
am the sole caregiver. Any negative impact on the income from the apartment
could severely affect our living ability.

Please consider the human impact this proposal would have and strike it

Thank you,

Arlene Geary
