Palo Alto Puts Off Parking Garage

Dear City Council Members,

I just want to make sure you saw that the Palo Alto City Council voted last
night to suspend efforts to build a downtown parking garage. From the
articles below, it sounds like they first want to implement a parking
management strategy (charge for parking, optimize current spots, etc.)
prior to making the huge investment and possibly incentivizing more single
occupancy vehicle trips downtown. While Menlo Park is not Palo Alto, it's
important that we learn from our neighbors. Taking a similar approach of
implementing a TMA program downtown and developing a parking management
strategy are good first steps.

I hope you find this information useful as you continue to consider your
priorities for the year.
