Oppose your Tenant Relocation Ordinance

Dear Mayor Mueller and Members of the City Council,

As a landlord who has provided quality housing to tenants in Menlo Park
since 1974 and recognizes our region's housing challenges, I have concerns
with your Tenant Relocation Ordinance.

Menlo Park has quite a number of small family owned apartment buildings. We
landlords should not be faced with punitive relocation penalties. And just
cause eviction may sound reasonable but actually is not good for the
majority of tenants who may find they are living next to someone who is
noisy or selling drugs, etc., whom the landlord is no longer able to evict,
or cannot evict without first spending a great deal of money and time in an
effort to do so.

Menlo Park voters as well as the majority of voters in California recently
voted to reject Prop 10. The city should consider that Menlo Park voters did
not, and undoubtedly still do not, support policies like rent control.

If the intent is to help vulnerable members of the community who are facing
housing emergencies, this is not the way to do it.

Thank you for your consideration.
