Support for "Tenant Relocation Assistance" ordinance

Dear members of Menlo Park's City Council,

I support the Housing Commission's recommendation to approve an urgency interim ordinance regarding Tenant Relocation Assistance.

I am a 40-year homeowner in the Willows neighborhood, and have watched our city's housing crisis evolve. A major piece of the problem is residential displacement; it is a serious problem for both Menlo Park's citizens and employers.

The recommended ordinance is very important to address the tenant relocation assistance issue. Our Housing Commission did a thorough review of issues and neighboring cities' policies, and they held numerous public meetings to get citizen input. This led to public hearings in September and October, which vetted the legal and procedural details.

This urgency ordinance is definitely justified, based on research into current housing realities on the mid-Peninsula. The Housing Commission has evaluated the appropriate triggers in the ordinance. Also, they included landlord considerations.

Please vote in support of this urgency ordinance.

Thank you. / Clem Molony, Menalto Avenue, Menlo Park
