I am writing to express my support for the three rail crossings option.

Furthermore, I strongly urge the Council to consider that the choices made
about regarding tunnel, trench, elevated tracks or some hybrid are, in my
view, 100 year choices. That is, the Council must consider a timeframe that
what is decided in 2019 will be what Menlo Park will be living with in the
year 2119.

The history of El Camino Real, for example, harkens back to at least the
late 1600's with the missions scattered along the route that would
progress from a foot and cart path to the roads and highways we have now.
The train tracks in Menlo Park date back to the 1860's. Given the built-up
infrastructure within the peninsula, we are unlikely to see any significant
changes in public transportation corridors unless they rise or fall
vertically within existing pathways. Failure to adequately plan now for
such a timeframe will result in future generations questioning our lack of

I personally lean towards a trench as it provides for easier access for
maintenance on tracks and trains, but I look to engineers, social
scientists, emergency personnel, and everyday citizens to inform my
