Menlo Park City Council:

It is encouraging to read that cutting greenhouse gas emissions is again one of the Council's priorities.

May I suggest that a great start would be for the city to enforce our heritage tree ordinance to save some or all of the

seven heritage trees that will be cut this summer in order to make room for the new multi-purpose building and the new

soccer field/playground at Oak Knoll elementary school. One of the mature oaks, in particular, will be sacrificed to build a parking

lot. That oak has been found to be in good health by 2 arborists. I also wonder what negative environmental impact the loss of these trees

will have on run-off into San Francisquito creek.

Protecting the city's canopy makes sense if we are really serious about reducing our carbon foot print.
