Opposition to Tenant Relocation Ordinance

Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council,

We own and manage several residential rental properties in Menlo Park.

The proposed Tenant Relocation Ordinance would rarely affect us because, like other property owners, we try to avoid sharp rent increases and tenancy terminations. However every situation is different, and there may be times when this ordinance would strong-arm us into to maintaining a tenancy which is having a detrimental impact on the property or other tenants.

More importantly, the proposed ordinance is a form of rent control which will only worsen the shortage of affordable housing in the area. Every step down the road of rent control will dampen the appeal of investing in rental properties in Menlo Park. As a result, there will be fewer rental properties and higher rents for everyone.

I thank you for your consideration and hope you vote against this ordinance.

Best regards,
John R. Beltramo
