Commissioners -
Thank you for reaching out to the full community with the upcoming meetings about the gym plans. This is important because the whole community is supporting the expansion and could be users of the facility even if not currently.

Unfortunately, I have had conflicts the recent focus group and tonight. Although my ability to comment is exceedingly constrained because the city website has minimal information about what is contemplated, I would like to suggest the following:

Consider the best possible long term plan for the entire Burgess campus, including the aging Recreation Center, when determining the appropriate location for new/expanded facilities. It would be a shame to feel constrained to a particular site when a much better site might be obvious within the context of future plans for the Rec Center also.
Evaluate the parking needs of an expanded facility, in above context also (improved Rec Center). I recently visited the city hall on a late afternoon and there were zero open spaces in the lot adjacent to the gym and city center, and only 2 next to the child care center.
Consider the impacts of the construction phase - and related staging of materials and equipment - on the rest of the Burgess campus, the uses, and parking.
Encourage incorporation of sustainable building design and construction techniques, including use of natural lighting and ventilation.
Post alternatives and plans on the city website so it's easier for people to review and comment.
