Fergusson Declines 2008 Supervisor Race

Menlo Park City Councilwoman Kelly Fergusson announced Thursday night that she will not challenge incumbent Rose Gibson for the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors 4th District seat in the June, 2008 election.

Fergusson, who had formed an exploratory Form 410 Committee for the race after being encouraged by supporters to run, said: "My heart remains in Menlo Park where there is more I would like to accomplish. I am extremely thankful to all the people who encouraged me, gave me advice, and helped me understand the dynamics of this race."

Since Fergusson's election to Menlo Park City Council (Nov. 2004) her priorities have been:
1) to stimulate economic development while preserving quality of life in residential neighborhoods;
2) to lead climate change initiatives; including convening the Green Ribbon Citizens' Committee, as well as advocating for additional pedestrian/bike/transit projects;
3) to foster citizen participation in all aspects of city decision making, most recently in a new vision for the Santa Cruz Avenue downtown and El Camino Real;
4) to improve recruitment and retention of police officers; 5) to advocate for progressive policy on infrastructure, environment, as well as water supply and conservation.

"There is so much to do in Menlo Park right now. It is my honor and obligation to devote myself to continued service as a City Councilwomen to see these projects through," said Fergusson.
