California Public Records Act (CPDA) request to San Mateo County Sheriff Carlos Balanos (slight update)

From: domainremoved <Aram>
Date: Fri, 5 Oct 2018 12:10:23 -0700

1. Please consider shelving all Tasers in your department. Tasers are
almost always used on unarmed individuals, whose vulnerabilities are
unknown to the members of law enforcement... at the time this very deadly
weapon is discharged.

2. Pursuant to the California Public Records Act —*please release the names
of all members of your department who discharged Tasers during the incident
described below, occurring on or about October 3, 2018*, at approximately
1pm, at or near the 1300 block of El Camino Real, in the city of Millbrae,
County of San Mateo. Please release the *number of Taser blasts each
officer discharged in the course of this officer involved fatality. *

Dear San Mateo County Sheriff Carlos Bolanos:

Please read the below article (No excuse for Tasers in our Jails, see link
below) written jointly by attorneys Richard Konda & Aram James.

Once you have read our piece, I would be happy to meet with you to discuss
realistic options to Taser use.

As you know, a San Mateo County man, age 36, died on October 3, 2018 after
being tased by one or more members of your department.

I believe this unfortunate death could have easily been avoided, had
members of your department been properly trained re the numerous risks
associated with tasering unarmed individuals, laboring under mental health
and cognitive deficits, under the influence of drugs, or suffering a
constellation of physical and mental heath issues. I look forward to
meeting with you in the very near future.
