Honorable Mayor and Council Members,

It is with great pride that I cordially INVITE EACH OF YOU to attend one or more planned activities as part of an ALL DAY CELEBRATION to honor Gini McAfee, artisit. Approx. 25 years ago, in 1982, Ms. McAfee created the twenty (20)  stained glass windows located on both sides of the street along approx. six blocks of Downtown Menlo Park, along Santa Cruz Avenue. The are located in the wooden kiosks that are on nearly every street corner.

This is like an OUTDOOR MUSEUM for all to see and enjoy, 24/7. Menlo Park citizens are lucky and fortunate to have these stained glass windows easily available that depict our community's HISTORY. Examples may be the famous "Menlo Gates", the Civic Center, Nativity Church and so on.

Many of the stained glass windows were donated by local WHO'S WHO of Menlo Park, such as the Flegel family, the Draeger family, the Hirzel family, the Giannotti family, the Carrel family and so on. These community spirited unsung heroes helped to enhance the downtown area and make it what it is today.

Some of the all day activities you may wish to consider, are as follows:

11:00 am Walking Tour
12:30 pm Lunch

2:00 pm Joint meeting of the Menlo Park Historical Association
and the Menlo Art League
4:00 pm Press Conference

6:00 pm Reception for the donors (approx. 40 individuals). The
City Council, Staff and others are
encouraged to attend this very special one hour
gathering, located in the Library meeting
                          room, lower level.
7:00 pm Gini plans to attend the City Council meeting.

On the way to the City Council meeting , you may wish to stop and take a look at an excellent 3' high, x 12' long glass enclosed locked DISPLAY CASE located at the entrance to the Library. It is full of fascinating memorabilia. A former MAYOR is shown, that is, Ira Bonde, and many others I'm sure you will recognize.

So many meetings involve controversy and debate. It is uplifting to have available this month a function that is upbeat, positive, professional, informative that helps to celebrate our past and help to court our blessings of the present.

The days activities are sponsored by the MENLO PARK HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION. My thanks go to them for putting the work, energy and financial commitment to help insure an event that has the potential of being historical in and of itself. Attached is an article published in the Almanac some time ago that may be of interest.

Respectfully,
Jim Lewis

Encl.
