Dear City Council,
We want to thank you for making Woodland Ave. a priority in the sidwalk plan.
We have lived on this street for 10 years and have seen the traffic increase to the point of it being dangerous most of the time. It breaks my heart that our four young children (ages 9-2.5 yrs) cannot ride their bikes on the street or push our youngest in a stroller. If we want to go on a bike ride together, we have to put the bikes in our car and drive to where it is safe. This situation could easily be fixed by adding continuous sidewalks along Woodland so that we can ride our bikes more often and drive our car less--a goal every family should be striving toward.
It doesn't make sense that some houses have sidewalks in front of their homes and others do not. We were required to put in a sidewalk when we re-built our home 5 years ago, but then other new homes built on Woodland since that time were not required to do so. This is disturbing to me. Where is the logic? Why have sidewalks on only part of the street?
Again, thank you for taking our street into consideration. I know that there are other neighborhoods in Menlo Park that need sidewalks too, so we are grateful for your support.
Sincerely,
Kristina and John Sakamoto
1205 Woodland Ave.
