EV Charging Requirements

Dear Honorable Council Members

Thank you for taking up this important topic, we are in support of its goals and ideals. However, we ask you not to adopt it in its present form.

Since EV technology is rapidly changing, we are concerned that the infrastructure required to be installed to support future EV chargers will be outdated/obsolete before there is sufficient demand to warrant their installation. This requirement is an unnecessary cost burden to new housing units without benefit.

We are also concerned about the feasibility of the implementation of the ordinance due to the utility providers refusal to size electrical service for future charging and the inability for the developer to account for load management strategies.

Given the rapidly changing environment, the City's goal to both be supportive of the development of new housing and be environmentally responsible; we ask that the proposed ordinance allow for flexibility and not impose unwarranted costs on residential construction without benefit.

We appreciate the consideration of our comments, are happy to continue a dialogue with staff.
