Please Move Ahead with much-needed EV Charging Policy

Dear City Council Members,
Im writing in support of the EV Charging Infrastructure policy before you this evening. I appreciate the hard work that staff have put into the policy over the past year, and focus and support of the Environmental Quality Commission.

This much-needed policy will position Menlo Park well to serve the many residents, visitors, and workers who currently own electric vehicles and who would like to use EVs in the near future.

Menlo Spark is committed to ensuring that Multi-family building owners, small business owners, and city staff have the support that they need to provide this key infrastructure, and we think that Menlo Parks EQC and Peninsula Clean Energy share this priority.

There are at least five funding sources available to help offset the cost of EV infrastructure:

  1. Peninsula Clean Energy recently launched an EV program providing support for Charging Infrastructure for Multi-family, called Easy Charge Apartments.<https://www.peninsulacleanenergy.com/easy-charge-apartments/>
  2. The Air District -BAAQMD runs the Charge! Program that offsets up to 75% of the cost of new chargers for MUDs.
  3. PG&E's EV Charge Sponsor Program can cover up to all of the cost of MUD Chargers in disadvantaged communities
  4. Volkswagen Electrify America- Cities can apply for chargers in areas serving MUDs, among other high traffic areas.
  5. The City currently allocates funding for climate action plan measures each year; this could be used to support EV Charging Infrastructure - a top priority of EQC.

Please support these critically needed infrastructure improvements for Menlo Park.
Sincerely,
Diane Bailey
