Dear Menlo Park City Officials,
I am writing to express my desire that any development projects at 975 Florence Lane conform to zoning and other legal requirements.  I also want to ensure that neighbors are provided notice as required by law.  I have not been informed by the city that code waivers or any other actions were under discussion despite hearing from neighbors that a meeting was recently held.  No notice of any kind was provided to me that this meeting was taking place.
Also, I have heard second-hand that the waivers are under consideration due to the owner's claim that he will not make enough profit due to the requirement of providing a below market unit.  If this is indeed a rationale being considered for the waivers, I want to express my disagreement with that precedent.  If the owner failed to factor the City's legal requirements into his calculations when purchasing the property, that was his mistake.  The City's goals of affordable housing and other zoning requirements should not suffer as a result of his failure to properly evaluate the property.
I am not aware of any reason that would justify waiving the City's zoning and other legal requirements in this case and hence do not support the granting of them at this point.  Indeed, the City already lacks sufficient rental property, and I would prefer to see these units remain available as rental units.  Even if it is converted to condominiums, the 975 Florence Lane property already is an eyesore in the neighborhood for it's failure to conform with the aesthetic and size of other housing on the street or in the area.  And this street has several large apartment complexes that already lack any street parking space (including 933 and 934 Florence Lane) as well as a fire hydrant in front of 975 Florence, where cars routinely park illegally, restricting the fire department's ability to access the hydrant in the event of a fire.  
If you are not going to require 975 Florence to provide off-street parking to all its residents, please repeal the anachronistic and elitist requirement that cars not be parked on the street overnight rather than selectively enforce it against the rest of us.
