Ms. Hoffman and Mr. Wolgelenter,

Thank you for alerting us to the issue at the intersection of Pope Street and Laurel Street. In January, this issue was brought to our attention by the City's Public Works Maintenance Department. Staff has gathered some data from the intersection and has discussed ways to resolve the issue. Since, this intersection is unique it creates challenges to find a simple solution and maintain the aesthetic character of the median island. At this time, there isn't a specific recommendation to resolve your concern, but the Transportation Division will be contacting you next week to meet with you at the intersection. We can discuss the ideas that the City has considered to date and gain input from you on ways to improve the situation. Also, we can discuss a process to gain approval of any agreed to measures.

If you have any other questions please call or e-mail me.

Thank you

Dear Mayor and Council Members,

The misleading and confusing signs at this triangle have been a problem for a long time, but events in Dec. '07 were the last straw for us. Clark Pest Control gave lawn service to a house on Laurel St. instead of ours. I found this out days later when I called Clark to inquire why they hadn't come. Then two floral gifts went to a house on Laurel instead of ours. Senders confirmed the deliveries but we never received the flowers. The problems come from signs that direct one to Pope St. when it is actually Laurel St. There are identical house numbers on portions of both streets.

We called Public Works on 12-18-07, on 1-15-08 and again on 2-4-08. On Jan. 15 we were told the traffic section has been working on this issue for 4 years.

This isn't rocket science. We are willing to meet with the traffic section and any interested neighbors or parties to work out a solution. We do not want to wait 4 more years. Assistance from the council is respectfully requested.

Sincerely,
Nancy Hoffman
