Fwd: Fw: Informational Handout -- Related to Stanford's GUP Application

 Hello City Council,

I'm forwarding Todd Collins's informational handout regarding Stanford's
funding gap to the PA Unified School District. Mr. Collins is a Palo Alto
school board member. I've checked with him, and he thinks its a good idea
for me to send this to you and the public. I found his document compelling.
Would be good to have something similar that focused on Menlo Park's

Hi Lynne,

Thanks for reaching out. A copy of the flyer is attached.

This definitely applies to MP as well. I met with your school board
president and vice president (Terry and David) a few weeks ago specifically
to discuss. The schools and city worked out a deal with Stanford relating
to the El Camino development toward the end of last year, that resulted in
Stanford making a one-time $1.5 million payment to your educational
foundation. While it's good, I think it is not enough, and most
importantly, not on-going. Stanford likes to make one-time payments, but
school children from rental housing will continue for generations!

Dear Mr. Collins,

A letter writer (Rita C. Vrhel) in the July 16, 2018 *Daily Post* commended
you for your comments at the recent public meeting regarding Stanford's
General Use Permit application and helpful informational handout. I tried
finding a copy of your handout online, but could not. I also was not aware
of the public meeting.

Stanford's growth is expected to impact the Menlo Park schools too and we
have similar concerns regarding Stanford paying its fair share of the costs
to educate the children of its professors and students (and possibly their
staff too). While Stanford proposes to give MP money to offset the impact,
I'm not sure it's enough. Our part-time Council (they all have outside
jobs) has a lot to keep up with so active resident involvement is helpful.
They appreciate it when we provide additional research as our staff also is
stretched very thin.

In short, your document could serve as a model for something that could be
developed in MP.

Would you kindly send me a copy or point me to where I might obtain one
online? Thank you so much for your help. I will also read/skim the public
comments on Stanford's application at the Environmental Review section
of the Santa Clara County's Planning website.
