El Camino Real Walking Tour - Saturday, February 9
This Saturday, the City is hosting a walking tour of the El Camino Real corridor. The purpose of the tour is to allow community members to review the existing conditions, discuss challenges and opportunities, and interact with other community members in an informal setting.
The tour will take place between 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 pm. Both the North and South segments will be run during the morning and afternoon time slots, so that attendees can do both segments- participants should pick either start point and then switch after lunch, if desired.
North: 1600 El Camino Real (at Encinal Ave) South: 815 El Camino Real (at Live Oak Ave)
Participants are encouraged to walk or bike to the tour start locations. If driving is necessary, participants should park in appropriate City lots or on-street. The tour will occur rain or shine. On Saturday, February 23, the City will host a similar walking tour of the Downtown area.
Please help promote the 2/9 El Camino Real walking tour by forwarding
this email to anyone you think might be interested! Please also
encourage other community members to subscribe

Speaker Series
The speaker series will resume on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 6:00
p.m. in the City Council Chambers (701 Laurel Street). Frederic Knapp,
an architect who focuses on historic preservation, will speak on
"Preservation and Prosperity in Downtown Environments." All of the
previous forums can be viewed online via the project page
<http://www.menlopark.org/projects/comdev_ecrdowntown.htm> .
In addition, on Wednesday, February 6 (tonight!) the Forum at Redwood City <http://www.ci.redwood-city.ca.us/misc/morehottopics/forum.html> will host Dan Parolek, who will speak on "Form-Based Codes: A Look at the Evolution and Use of Cutting-Edge Zoning Tools."
Community Workshops
The first Community Workshop will take place on Thursday, March 6 in the Recreation Center (701 Laurel Street). Look for more details soon, but please get this date on your calendar, as the three Community Workshops are key parts of the visioning process.
Oversight/Outreach Committee
The Oversight/Outreach Committee conducted a productive initial meeting on January 29, which included a joint session with the City Council. On the morning of February 6, the Committee visited the neighboring communities of San Carlos, Redwood City, and Palo Alto to look at examples of projects, sites, and neighborhoods that could be relevant to the visioning process. Staff and several Committee Members took a number of photos, which will be presented on the web shortly. In addition, a handout will be available at the first Community Workshop, listing the tour stops that the Committee made along with other locations that could be of interest to other community members.
