NOT the time to spend many millions on something we do NOT need

Dear Council Members,

As a 50 year resident of Menlo Park, I oppose spending those millions of dollars on a new library to replace our perfectly fine main library on Alma Street.

And I oppose forcing residents to pay $30 million dollars - or more - in increased utility taxes to pay for it.

I especially oppose a new building which would necessitate moving current council chambers, removing mature oak trees, and making more traffic through the residential parts of this neighborhood.

There are so many more important needs now than this - like children’s safe routes to school and the commuting traffic mess through our city, increased by council’s lack of attention on the Caltrans fiasco of replacing the Willow Road/Highway 101 interchange, when a much-less expensive pedestrian/bike bridge alone could have solved the major safety issues.

Certainly improvements are needed more in the smaller branch in Belle Haven - And don’t tell me this must be linked to an unneeded main library replacement - that is ridiculous!

Count me as opposed to any new main library plan at this time.
