Dear Council Members:

I am writing to let you know that I support plans to build a new Main Library in Menlo Park, as well as a new branch library in Belle Haven. Plans to build a new Main Library are much closer to being a reality and I urge you to accept the recommendations of the Library staff presented at the May 22 Council meeting.

Many Bay Area cities and towns have already built libraries that have become centers not just for books and reading, but for meeting and collaboration spaces for all segments of the community, places for children, adolescents and teens to meet and be inspired to learn, as well as large conference centers for all to use. Menlo Park has a chance to bring our libraries into the current century, and we should take this opportunity to do so.

We have a very generous offer of $25 million + from John Arrillaga to help us build the Main Library. This will give us a tremendous boost and help us to achieve our goal of modern libraries. If you turn this money down, our goal of building new libraries will take a substantially longer time be so much more expensive and difficult.

As supporters of the Library we have worked for the last several years to get to this point. We don't want our exciting project to go down to defeat. Please vote Yes in support of the Library.

Monica Corman, President
Menlo Park Library Foundation
