Support for downtown garage/theater proposal

To the City Council,

I'm a resident of Menlo Park's downtown neighborhood (Live Oak Avenue) writing to voice my support for the downtown parking garage/movie theater up for discussion at the April 16 meeting. A modest-sized 2 to 3-screen theater would be an attractive and appropriately scaled addition to the garage, needed to alleviate increasing congestion in lots and on-street parking. It would bring additional life to the heart of downtown and benefit existing businesses, especially locally-owned retail shops and restaurants. It would fit the walkable scale of downtown while providing convenient parking for visitors who drive in to the heart of the city.

A theater on that scale, screening first-run films, would complement the entertainment offerings and occasional film screenings planned by the "new Guild."

I understand that the parking/theater project will be economically viable because the city would own the land as well as the property. If parking fees were charged, it could generate additional revenue for the city.
