Dutch intersection--improving safety at Middlefield x Willow Rd.

Dear councilmembers,

The Transportation Master Plan, one of the city's six top priorities, is a
great opportunity to look at our streets holistically and improve safety
for bicyclists and pedestrians. I hope that the TMP toolkit will include
the latest innovations in bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, including
the "Dutch" intersection. Here is a quick overview:

Davis installed one a couple of years ago:

The TMP Oversight Committee is currently reviewing a detailed list of
possibilities for the Willow Corridor and the Bayfront Corridor. Included
in the list is a redesign of the intersection of Middlefield and Willow, in
order to make it more friendly to bicyclists and pedestrians. There's a
great opportunity to create better connections between the Willows
neighborhood and downtown Menlo by improving this intersection. Why not
consider a Dutch intersection here?

I hope to discuss this at a public TMP meeting soon, but I saw that the TMP
is on the agenda for tonight's meeting, so wanted to speak up now.

Thanks in advance for your consideration!
