Community Input on City Staffing Policies

From: domainremoved <Julie>

Dear Mayor Ohtaki and Esteemed Council Members,

We would like to offer public comment on Agenda Item I-4 to be discussed
this evening at the council meeting.

1) We are dismayed that the staffing firm employed to fill city government
positions is headquartered in Torrance, CA. We feel a local firm would be
more effective and efficient because they are familiar with the community.
In the future we would like to see these contracts awarded to local
businesses first.

2) We would like to see a local hiring policy that encourages Menlo Park
residents to apply to work for the city and local businesses to apply for
city contracts.

3) Please vote to raise the city minimum wage for the people who watch our
children at the recreation department after school. Currently these
positions begin at $12/hour. See the job description here
<https://www.menlopark.org/Jobs.aspx?UniqueId=102&From=All&CommunityJobs=False&JobID=Recreation-Leader-I-PartTime-Temp-Afters-719>.
It is no wonder that there are so many vacancies. A living wage
<http://livingwage.mit.edu/counties/06081> for San Mateo County for one
person is $19.63. See link here <http://livingwage.mit.edu/counties/06081>.
Currently our part time workers make far less.

We appreciate your attention to this issue.

Respectfully,

Cecilia Taylor, Annielka Perez, Julie Shanson
