Poet Laureate 2018

Honorable Mayor Ohtaki and Council Members,

Last year, the Menlo Park City Council recognized a Poet Laureate during a regular scheduled City Council meeting. I remember it well, which was followed by the reading of some original poetry. I'd like to support that being done again in 2018.

As you know, cultural activities within a community recognizes the importance of topics that go beyond the customary brick and mortar issues of the day. Poetry, like literature, film, drama, music, sculpture, murals and so on add life, spirit, joy, fun and a host of qualities important to day to day living.

At a February 5, 2018 meeting of the Santa Clara County - Board of Supervisors, under Agenda Item # 9 and Agenda Item #10, this very topic was brought up (see copy of their Action Minutes attached). I'm sure a similar agenda item can also be found on the San Mateo County - Board of Supervisor's agenda.

Devoting three minutes to this topic at a future meeting may be something you wish to consider, despite many pending matters that include a long list of priority items. Thank you for your consideration.
