In Favor of The New Guild

Dear Menlo Park City Council Members,

I am a resident of nearby Ladera in San Mateo County. My children attend schools in Menlo Park, and I have been active in the community for the last 18 years.

I heard recently that the Peninsula Arts Guild non-profit is looking at the old Guild Theater as a potential site for music performance in addition to the current offering of art films. I think that would an amazing opportunity for the downtown area and I support that possibility. I am a big fan of live music and there is currently little in the way of musical culture anywhere on the peninsula.

As I mentioned above, I have been in the Menlo Park area for nearly two decades. In that time I have observed that while some neighboring towns are developing vibrant and successful downtown areas with new businesses and entertainment options, there does not seem to be as much happening in Menlo Park currently. I believe adding a venue for live entertainment could be part of a catalyst to invigorate the downtown. It would add a unique and attractive option to bring people to Menlo Park in the evenings and on weekends which will also mean increased foot traffic for the many fine local restaurants nearby.

I commend you all for your hard work and for considering this option. I believe it is a good idea to move forward with a new venue at the Guild Theater quickly to secure this future gem in the making.

Thank you for your consideration of this plan.

Best Regards,
Aaron Hipple
