Dear Menlo Park City Council,

I am writing in support of the proposal for a new and revitalized venue at the Guild. My wife and I live in Menlo Park and our now-grown son attended school here. We are very excited about the news of a new proposal for the Guild which would expand the theater into a first class art, film and music venue.

Menlo Park has a unique opportunity to capture the resources and energy of the Peninsula Arts Guild and give our residents a downtown with the kind of entertainment and arts space that can transform the City and local business community. Our downtown is overlooked, underutilized, under-appreciated and failing the City’s residents and business owners. We would love to see MP and it’s restaurants, retail, and local businesses invigorated by an art and music venue that serves the community and attracts residents and locals on the Peninsula.

The centerpiece of a vibrant and healthy town center is a diverse arts, food and entertainment scene. MP is missing such a reason to visit the downtown. Why should our residents and neighbors have drive north or south to experience what should and can be available here?

This new proposal for the Guild is locally sponsored. These are reasonable, thoughtful individuals who are mindful of the need to balance the interests and concerns of our residents (who want to avoid noise, parking and traffic hassles) with a desire to see a our depressed and neglected downtown transformed into a place we want to spend our time and money in.

The City Council has an opportunity right now with the Peninsula Arts Guild that will likely not be available again. I implore you to grab this opportunity, for the sake of the town residents and for our local business community.
