Dear Council Members,

The main purpose of this letter is to urge your positive action at the January 8 Council Meeting with respect to the proposed Medical Office Building at 1906 El Camino Real. One of my neighbors is the architect for this project. I have seen renderings of the proposed building. It is attractive, and its size and function appear quite appropriate for the proposed location.

I have been a resident of Menlo Park since 1975, since 1979 at this address, which is on the corner of Santa Cruz Avenue only a half mile west of downtown. During this time I have been proud of and enjoyed using our downtown businesses, although in truth the El Camino corridor has never completely pleased me. I assume you were as shocked as I was at the sudden departure of the several auto dealerships on El Camino. At the time I thought this would be a golden opportunity for improvement of El Camino, but now, a couple years later, we still see these and other business sites vacant.

I have been following with interest the creation of the El Camino Real/Downtown Visioning Project. Although it seems to me that this Visioning Project is a little late getting off the ground, I sincerely hope that it will eventually result in an El Camino corridor business/residential development that will compliment the Santa Cruz Downtown Area while honoring the basic residential character of Menlo Park.

I expect that the proposed Medical Office Building of the first paragraph above will be compatible with whatever plan the Visioning Project eventually adopts.

Sincerely yours, James E. Clendenin Received on Mon Dec 31 19:41:23 2007
