A Well Designed Ballot Measure Could Be an Important Boost to Public Transit and Mobility Improvements

Dear Mayor Ohtaki and City Council Members,
It is good to see the presentation by “Get Us Moving” San Mateo County regarding transportation on the Council agenda this evening.

I am unable to attend the meeting, and would like to voice support for the additional transportation funding that this ballot measure could bring to Menlo Park and the region.

Menlo Spark, together with over twenty other local organizations, is part of the Transportation Equity Allied Movement Coalition (TEAMC) working to ensure that the proposed GUM measure improves sustainability, and benefits those with the greatest mobility needs, transit users, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

We would like to see the revenue from such a measure improve the transportation system through:

1. More affordable, and readily accessible transportation options;

2. Greater safety for everyone, which will encourage walking, biking and other active transportation options;

3. Reduced carbon emissions and improved air quality;

4. Better management of roads, highways, and other transit assets within the constraints of the existing infrastructure; and

5. Increased transportation equity to those who have experienced the most pollution, unsafe streets, and insufficient public transit availability.

Thank you for considering these comments.
