Santa Monica/Linfield connector

Dear Council,

The proposed connector across Middlefield at Linfield/Santa Monica be made
a priority for the upcoming work plan. Seldom do we so much benefit for
the city transportation network for such a small cost. The connector would:

1. Create a safe bicycle/pedestrian connection between Burgess Park and
Menlo Oaks, Vintage Oaks, and parts of the Willows close to Coleman Ave.

2. Allow fire equipment to operate more safely on Middlefield,

3. Allow increased bicycle connectivity to downtown MP and to Palo Alto
via the Webster bike bridge. It would not require any loss of parking nor
increase in cut-though traffic.

Related to the connector across Middlefield is the connection to Burgess at
Alma/Ravenswood. More than 500 people cross this intersection daily with
similar hazards to those found at Middlefield. Improvements at this
intersection should be on the work plan as well.
