Dear City Council Members of Menlo Park, my name is Kurt Cabrera-Miller. I am the President of Sylmar Neighborhood Council in Los Angeles. Words can not express the amount of honor and the magnitude of our gratitude for your Fire Fighters.
While the brave men and women are still today battling the "Creek Fire", thankfully after several days the Fire Fighters are getting the upper hand. We as a community are finally able to return to our homes and our neighborhoods. Sadly there have been some homes lost but nothing comparatively to what it would have been if it were not for your Fire Fighters!
A point from our history. November 1st marked the 50th anniversary of the day that 12 wildland firefighters perished on the "Loop Fire". The El Cariso Hotshots were constructing a fire-line on the Angeles National Forest in Sylmar in 1966 when the fire blew up below them. Today I was honored to stand with your Fire Fighters as they visited a monument to those El Cariso Hot Shots. This monument sits at the base of the mountain where the current "Creek Fire" had begun.
Heroes of today standing with honor respecting the Heroes that fought before them.
From our entire community to your entire community, WE THANK YOU!
