Hello Mayor Keith, Vice Mayor Ohtaki, Councilmembers Cline, Meuller and
Carlton, Mr. McIntyre and Mr McClure,

We, the City of Menlo Park, are unique in our ribbon shape, reaching
from the Bay to the world’s most beautiful highway 280. Our city is filled
with a wealth of diversity of people, income, education, age and
ethnicity. We share a common goal of the desire for inclusive government
with complete transparency. We strive to meet the highest level of quality
of life for our family and neighbors.

We are now embarking upon the creation of a more inclusive electoral
system, voting for you, our Council members, by district. This is our
opportunity deeply engage our residents in the process to create the
districts through an independent districting commission. The is the
opportunity for you, the council, to place this process in the hands of the
people who you serve.

Attached is a document detailing the City of Menlo Park’s Independent
Districting Commission and timeline for completion for the November 2018
elections. It is consistent with the recommendations from California Local
Redistricting Project and the California Citizens Redistricting Commission.

This is the first step before we begin to review Charter City
possibilities and other voting systems that are a significant part of good
governance. You are strongly urged to adopt, tonight an Independent
Districting Commission.

Respectfully, Pamela Jones
