Internet Options in Menlo Park

Council members,

I’ve been living in Menlo Park a couple years now, and my Comcast Internet
bill continues to rise. I now pay $80/mo plus taxes (~$90/mo) for Internet
only. I’m not in a low-density development — I’m right in downtown Menlo
Park in an 8-unit apartment building. Yet, my only other Internet options
are essentially non-starters, very slow (5mbps) options from Sonic and AT&T.

What can the council do to encourage more competition among internet
service providers in our town? I have a decent-paying job, but I imagine a
lot of my neighbors are likely having to make tough trade offs between fast
internet from a monopoly or low productivity due to slow Internet. I’d love
to see Council help with this.
