Hiring a lobbyist to seek funding for Menlo Park

I just read the article in the Almanac. It focuses on the political
affiliations of the lobbyist chosen by the city council. I have a more
basic issue:

I am strongly opposed to the city of Menlo Park spending tax dollars to
lobby in Washington D.C. Aren't our elected local and state
representatives supposed to handle this sort of thing?

Take the $100k and spend it on local priorities. Much better return on
investment.

And if you are dead set on hiring a lobbyist, find one who is a little less
swampy.
