Carbon Impact Planning

This my first communication on this issue. Having just watched the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Al Gore (8:00 - 9:00 this morning from Oslo Norway) it seems more clear that government leadership can provide goals but local governments and individuals will be the leaders of any movement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Whatever visionary plans we as a community incorporate into a city plan, it seems prudent to include as an umbrella policy one that reduces our energy use. Children need to return to bike riding to and from school with moms or dads instead of the SUV as transportation. Schools and local governments can encourage exercise and good health for all of us by getting out of our cars except when absolutely necessary. Instead of buying four trillion dollars of toys and stuff (what the US will spend this year on unnecessary items) we don't need, lets buy a college fund investment for our kids. Think of retrofitting our homes where possible with solar panels and buying a hybrid car. We  will never see legislation for these kinds choices but individuals can make these decisions which can set Menlo Park as model city for long term conscious decisions for our children's future. This is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children. Thanks,
