I write to express my concerns about the proposal to rebuild the library.

I know you have heard from many that the existing library is enough to meet
our needs and that the cost that the city would have to chip in will
divert funds from other priorities. I agree with all of this.

In addition to all of these concerns, I find the existing library building
is quite special from an architectural point of view. Some finishes could
use updating but the design is beautiful and there is seamless flow
between inside and outside space, I like the beautiful and high ceilings
with thoughtful placement of windows that bring light in from above. It
would be a shame to demolish this gem.

If the city is determined to build a new library, please consider doing so
without demolishing the existing library building. The children's center
building is an eyesore and is too small to meet the demand for preschool
programs. If something has to be torn down, perhaps the children's center
could move to the existing library space making room for a new library at
the children's center site.
