Take a Strong Stand: Menlo Park/Stanford Development Agreement

Council Members-
I urge you to take a strong stand in negotiating the terms of the Menlo
Park/Stanford agreement. This development is huge and will have an
irreversible affect on our town. We should have AT LEAST the traffic and
environmental standards that Stanford maintains for its campus and in lieu
taxes that are similar to comparable universities.

The City of Belmont recently negotiated an in lieu agreement with Crystal
Springs Uplands School. The school will make a one-time payment of
$1,000,000 to Belmont and a $250,000 annual payment. They will also pay
$30,000 annually to the school district. This is for a relatively small
development on land that is not located in a valuable mixed use corridor
like El Camino Real. It is inconceivable that, to offset their impact on
local schools, Stanford would offer to pay Menlo Park only $100,000
annually.
