Do Not Throw Belle Haven Under The Bus

Dear Menlo Park Council,

Below is the text of a message I posted to Nextdoor earlier today. I thought it would be helpful to share this post with you. The post highlights how the plan that is being proposed by SamTrans could impact your constituents who live in its direct path.

Sheryl Bims

Fellow Belle Haven Residents,

Tonight there will be A VERY IMPORTANT meeting about the DUMBARTON RAIL CORRIDOR hosted by SamTrans at 6:30p.m. at the Senior Center in Belle Haven. We MUST SHOW UP. They are proposing some of the following IMPACTS along the railroad tracks that run through our Community:

Allowing buses to have exclusive express lanes that are positioned next to the tracks. NOTE there would be trains and BUSES running behind the retail center, the Apartments at 777 Hamilton, the Churches, the Homes at Hamilton Park, the Fire Station, Beechwood School, Our Community Center And Kelly Park.
The buses would circle back at the end of Kelly Park and connect to Hwy 101 so that the buses could head south to Palo Alto, Mountain View, Sunnyvale etc. These buses include the private buses used by tech companies to transport their employees.
They want to include FLYOVER LANES for all of this traffic.
SamTrans recommends NO PEDESTRIAN OR BIKE PATHS along this part of the rail corridor.

This Plan is UNACCEPTABLE in its current state. If you think it's hard to enter and exit our community now, imagine trains and buses blocking the end of Chilco Street. DO NOT LET THEM THROW BELLE HAVEN UNDER THE BUS. This Plan calls for too much TRAFFIC, POLLUTION AND NOISE in our neighborhood. Let's see if our elected officials and City employees are present tonight. Please note that Facebook has paid $1.2 million to fund the SamTrans study. I think they need partial refund at the very least.
