Hon. Mayor and Council Members:
It is outrageous that this city is once again spending an enormous amount of money to study additional playing fields when they have been studied to death for decades.
It was determined that Burgess Park was already over-used and, indeed, our central park which should be for the benefit of all, is completely taken over by flying balls, skate boards (one flew over the fence and almost hit my car) basketballs and baseballs which we have dodged for years.
There is no more room for ball fields in our parks. In fact, they should not be called parks at all. Parks are supposed to be for people - to stroll, contemplate, enjoy nature. Instead we are denied any of these things and endure considerable noise in our homes.
Parks and Recreation Commissions have always been obsessed with a sense of entitlement. I note that two of our council members were frustrated at what was perceived as their lack of power over the previous council who opined that Burgess should not be considered for additional ball games.
There was a great deal of money spent on these fields - money that could have been spent on more important endeavors. Measure T was passed to provide all citizens.
There was a small city that looked like a shoe. It had so many
ballplayers it didn't
know what to do...
