Red paint only --DO NOT PUT obstructing unattractive No Parking signs on Santa Cruz Avenue

Dear Councilmembers,

I'm writing to express my support for the use of red paint on the curbs
along Santa Cruz Avenue RATHER than obstructing and unattractive No Parking
poles and signs. The Santa Cruz Sidewalk Project has been a huge success
with lots more people using the sidewalks and the buffered bike lanes. The
wide unobstructed sidewalks make strolling downtown pleasurable.
Congratulations on such an outstanding job. However, I just found out that
you are planning to install a series of "No Parking" signs at regular
intervals up and down the street, on poles embedded 18” into the new
sidewalks! The unintended consequence is to provide a series of
obstructions in the path of bikers and pedestrians. We've dealt with this
nuisance on sidewalks closer to downtown and are incredibly annoying and

I urge you to use red paint on the sidewalk curbs to indicate no parking in
the bike lane rather than obstructing the beautiful new wide sidewalks with
hazardous and unattractive signs.

Thank you very much,
