No Parking on SCA

Dear City Council Members,

The Santa Cruz Avenue sidewalk and bike lane improvements project seems to be a success with lots more people using the sidewalks and the buffered bike lanes. We just learned that the city now plans to install a series of "No Parking" signs at regular intervals up and down the street, on poles embedded 18” into the new sidewalks! We think red paint on the curbs does the trick just fine — like we had before the construction but better because the curbs would be painted rather than the gutters. Poles for “No Parking” signs will interfere with pedestrians and add unsightly elements to what currently looks like a nice residential street.

Please use red paint on the sidewalk curbs to indicate no parking in the bike lane rather than obstructing the new wide sidewalks with unattractive signs.
