Downtown Merchant Parking

Dear Mayor Keith and Members of the City Council,

Guy Plumbing and Heating, located at 1265 El Camino Real, is a
fourth-generation, family owned and operated business that has served Menlo
Park for nearly 70 years. We ask our employees to find off-site parking each
day so that our customers can have access to our limited on-site parking
area. The multiple new building projects surrounding our showroom have
eliminated the existing all-day parking spots within a reasonable walking
distance from our business, and have forced our employees (as well as our
surrounding businesses) to search the residential areas for parking sites.
We expect that these ongoing projects will make parking problems worse both
during construction and after completion.

We would like to purchase four annual parking permits in Plaza 1 for our
employees. We understand that our location at 1265 El Camino Real is just
beyond the established downtown merchant parking permit area. We hope that
this designation will be reevaluated as Menlo Park continues to grow. Please
consider granting us a waiver so that our employees can be included in the
downtown merchant parking system.

As you are well aware, many small locally-owned businesses in downtown
centers around the nation are struggling due to competition with big box
stores and online retail. We fear that we will lose customers as parking
becomes more challenging. With the City's support, we anticipate serving
our community for another 70 years. We are look forward to hearing from you.

Respectfully,

Troy J. Guy

Guy Plumbing and Heating, Inc.
