City Council
As a Belle Haven resident, I want to voice my support of the new housing proposed at the 1300 block of Willow. I do however want to raise two point to the council. The first is that I desire the space to be zoned so that more retail/small businesses can reside on the first floor. The proposed 8,000 SF is not adequate to provide space for a variety of small retailers to offer services to the community. As you are already aware, the community has voiced a desire for a pharmacy, for a bank, and for retailers such as dry cleaning. These requests have been voiced for years. This development is an opportunity to create more multi-use spaces while updating the housing.

Additionally, we have much concern that the city has not put equal emphasis on promoting affordable housing closer to El Camino. As long as the city allows the concentration of wealth to be unevenly distributed through the city, the City of Menlo Park will continue to hear objection about a disparity of resources. While the solution is complex, promoting more housing developments of this size through the city will be one step toward unifying our city.
