for denying the appeal of the owners of 318 Pope to cut down the magnificent redwood on their property. As I posted on Nextdoor weeks ago:

"I would feel very differently about this if the owners wanting to cut down the tree had lived here for years and/or had planted the tree. But they are coming into the neighborhood, having known full well that the tree was there when they bought the property. So why should they be permitted to remove a truly magnificent tree just because they feel like building a McMansion on their site? They should have considered the tree when they bought the property. And if they didn't, NOT welcome to the neighborhood! Not the kind of people I want living near me.
I will add that, aside from having seen multiple hawks perch on that tree, I have seen a Golden Eagle perched up on top multiple times. The tree is unusually tall for the area and, if it attracts more wildlife, particularly a rare eagle, to the neighborhood, I feel all the more strongly that the tree needs to be saved.”

This said, I know the neighbors on either side of the tree and consider them friends. I don’t want tree to fall on their house but agree with the Council’s decision tonight to let the tree live with mitigation measures.

Thanks for your thoughtful consideration of this issue!
