Vote YES on Menlo Park Safe City Ordinance

As a matter of basic human decency, it is imperative that the Menlo Park
City Council pass the Safe City Ordinance.

Opponents of the ordinance say that it undermines the rule of law; this is
precisely backwards. A city in which some some residents fear to speak to
local law enforcement for fear of deportation is a city that encourages the
criminal victimization of those residents. Even if you believe that
undocumented immigrants should be expelled, does it therefore follow that
they should also be stolen from, beaten, and raped while the police stand
by and do nothing? Immigration enforcement is the prerogative of federal
law-enforcement agencies, and while they do their job, Menlo Park police
should do theirs: to serve and protect the community.
