Yes on becoming a sanctuary city

Dear Menlo Park city council members,

While I've only been a resident of Menlo Park for about 6 months now, from
what I have seen in this short period is that this city is a very special
place. I attended the last city council meeting where we discussed the
adoption of a sanctuary city ordinance, and I was blown away by all the
amazing people who came in support of this ordinance and spoke so
beautifully and eloquently about the importance of Menlo Park becoming a
sanctuary city (or whatever we choose to call it). I was also impressed by
all the efforts this city is taking to reduce its carbon footprint and help
make Menlo Park a leading green city. As someone who bikes to work, thank
you for making Menlo Park a bike friendly city! But back the becoming a
santactuary city. I strongly urge you to vote yes on becoming a sanctuary
city. As I've read the news these past few months I've been appalled at
this administration's lack of compassion and respect for its most
vulnerable people. Tearing hard working families apart is cruel,
unnecessary, and harmful to this country. While I know we potentially stand
to lose some funding by becoming a sanctuary city, this seems such a small
price to pay for standing on the right side of history. We know that
history will not look kindly on those who sided with these discriminatory
and harmful policies. Since the election I've thought many times about the
following statement:

"Remember sitting in history, thinking “If I was alive then, I would’ve…”
You’re alive now. Whatever you’re doing is what you would’ve done."

We're alive now and becoming a sanctuary city is what I believe we should
do. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the next city council meeting,
but again I would like to express my strong support in becoming a sanctuary
city.

Thank you for your time and all your hard work.

Best,
Sara
