Fwd: Paseo 2016

To the Menlo Park City Council:

I understand the Council is considering options for continuing the
downtown paseo. Below I'm resubmitting suggestions I made a year ago. An
additional idea:

Recruit some MP teenagers to organize a weekly program for teens (music
or other events). Maybe allow up to a certain amount for expenses.

In any case, if the paseo is continued, it should be made more
attractive and "exciting."

To the Menlo Park City Council:

Is there going to be a paseo again this year on Chestnut Street? If so,
I urge the Council arrange for it to be a little more interesting than
just some artificial turf laid down over the asphalt. If its not too
late, a call should go out for design and use suggestions. Here are some
of mine:

1.Continue and maybe even extend the evening movie time.

2.On the parking lot end of the paseo, install a row of
semi-permanent seats that also serve as a barrier to cars.

3.Have several picnic tables with umbrellas (shade is important for
    summer daytime use!).

4.Encourage people to have their lunch and/or coffee at the paseo.
Maybe arestaurant will set up a cart with sandwiches, soup, coffee,
etc., on at least one given day a week. If not, arrange for a food
truck to be at the paseo (parking lot side) from, say, 12-2PM.

5.Arrange for live music one or more evenings a week, from, say, 5
to 7 PM. The Lions seem to be able to get music for the farmers
    market on Sundays.

6.In fact, will one or more of Menlo Park’s service organizations
want to try something with the paseo?

7.Anytime on weekends would be great for events for children such as
    clowns, jugglers.

8.A children’s play structure might work.

9.What about a wine and/or beer tasting event?

    10. Encourage regular group meetings at the paseo, like a
    mothers-with-enfants time.

    11. What about a weekly flea market? A weekly cooking demonstration?

    12. Would the boy and/or girl scouts like to try something?

Whatever is decided, publish a schedule – Nextdoor would be a good
communication channel.
