Thank you all for leading this effort -- particularly Rich and John!
We need a connection across El Camino. It looks like we're getting the
grade separation.
Instead of doing the minimal overpass -- could we do something with the
bridge that makes it stand out aesthetically AND connect our community?
It sounds crazy but I keep imagining London Bridge -- with shops for
pedestrians only. That's impossible -- but is there a nugget somewhere
in this idea? -- such as making the grade separation overpass wide
enough for nice pedestrian boulevards on the sides? -- where local
artisans could possibly rent space to show local handcrafts for sale
on weekends? -- or perhaps any day of the week? This would create a
carnival-like atmosphere and draw people to walk/bike between downtown
and the civic center. The more people who walk that space, the safer
and more attractive to people it becomes.
At the very least, could we please have enough space to plant a screen
of greenery between the people walking/biking the overpass and the cars
whizzing underneath? (I hate those wire-cage overpasses we have over
the freeway in the Flood Park area.)
Or could we have the pedestrian part of the overpass paved with tiles
by school kids?
