Please oppose SB 1250

Please do not support SB 1250. Our city needs to be able to have the flexibility to hire outside contractors when those contractors can provide similar or better service for similar, for particularly for lower total costs, including all short and long term costs. Hiring union workers, when there are other reasonable options is extremely expensive, and gives less flexibility to our city compared to non-union, and particularly competitively bid outside contractor options.

Few of us would make the choice to spend 10 or 20 or 50% more than necessary if we were buying something, be it a house, a loan rate, a car, an airline ticket etc. so why would we want our city to pay that kind of premium, especially when we’re already struggling to fund the already excessive and unsustainable Calpers pension obligations? To preclude future options, as called for by SB1250 is not in the interest of our or any other city in California.
